Boscov's Friends Helping Friends Coupon Day

Event Organizer (for St. Stephen's) - Stephanie Rotsaert

Friends Helping Friends day is an opportunity for every local non-profit (501c and 170c1) organization (holding a Federal Tax ID#), like St. Stephen's, to raise funds by selling shopping passes to the event. In October 2017, Friends Helping Friends day was a tremendous success, raising over $600,000 for service organizations in communities with Boscov’s stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Maryland and Ohio.

Friends Helping Friends makes fundraising for St. Stephen's Episcopal Fellowship and Fundraising, simple and easy!

1) It’s Free! There is no cost or obligation. Our organization will be supplied with $5 shopping passes, as many as we want to sell to friends, neighbors and family. Our organization keeps the entire $5 from every shopping pass sold.

2) It’s Easy! Boscov’s supplies the passes, signs, advertising and free refreshments served throughout the day in their store on Friends Helping Friends day. It is truly a terrific opportunity for our group and our supporters.

3) We Can Qualify for Bonus Awards! After Friends Helping Friends Day, each Boscov’s location will award $100 to an organization selected by random drawing from all the organizations that are participating.

See Stephanie Rotsaert for details.

Corned Beef Dinner - Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

Corned Beef Dinner - Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

Event Coordinator - Al Thompson, Men's Club

A traditional Corned Beef dinner with all the fixings in an early celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

Every March 17, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with parades, parties, and a lot of green. This date marks the death of Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland.

Thought to have been born Maewyn Succat in late-4th Century Britain, the historical figure known as St. Patrick used the name "Patricius" in his writings. St. Patrick was neither Irish nor initially a devout Christian. At the age of 16, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave.

After years of enslavement, it is said a voice came to him in his sleep and urged him to escape. Reunited with his family, St. Patrick studied to become a priest and spent the remainder of his life as a missionary in Ireland.

St. Patrick is attributed with using the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity and banishing snakes from Ireland (although no evidence supports their existence on the island).

St. Patrick’s Day was only a minor holiday in Ireland until the 1970s. In the United States, it has been celebrated since before the Revolutionary War, when Irish members of the Colonial Army held the first Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City in 1762. Today, the holiday has evolved to become a secular celebration of Irish culture.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Dinner

Event Coordinator - Al Thompson, Men's Club

What is Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday, also called Pancake Day, Pancake Tuesday, Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras (which is French for "Fat Tuesday"), is the last day of feasting before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Shrove Tuesday is observed mainly in English-speaking countries, especially Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, but also in the Philippines and Germany. Shrove Tuesday is linked to Easter, so its date changes on an annual basis.

The date can vary from as early as February 3rd to as late as March 9th. Shrove Tuesday is preceded by Shrove Monday and marks the end of Shrovetide, also known as the Pre-Lenten Season.
